Hydroxy Citric Acid (HCA) is derived from the small exotic pumpkin-like fruit Garcinia Cambogia (Brindleberry), indigenous to India and Southeast Asia.
HCA inhibits the enzyme citrate lyase, which is needed for the conversion of carbohydrates into fat. When HCA is present, carbohydrates convert to glycogen rather than fat, ensuring more efficient energy reserves, stamina and weight control.
Citrate lyase is only active when there is a high influx of carbohydrates in the diet, so inhibiting this enzyme will only be of benefit in achieving weight loss when consuming high carbohydrate content meals.
